Funeral services were held at St. Edwards church, Belleville and burial at St. Isadore's cemetery Cuba, for Vincent Baxa, sr., on Saturday, November 18, at 10:30. The church was filled with friends and relatives who came to assist at the solemn requiem mass with the Rev. C. J. Brown, Belleville, celebrant, the Rev. Alfred Wassinger, Cuba, deacon, and the Rev. Raymond Menard, Concordia, subdeacon. Father Wassinger read the obituary and preached the sermon. Vincent Baxa was the son of Mathias and Frances Baxa. He was born near Pilsen county, Czechoslovakia, on January 19, 1877, and died at his home near Belleville on November 11, 1944, at the age of 67 years, 9 months and 26 days. His parents came to America when he was three years old and settled in Republic county near his present home. He lived with them during the early days of their hardships on the prairie until his early twenties. On January 20, 1903, he married Ella A. Blazek and to this union were born 12 children. he was very devoted to his family and made great sacrifices that the religious and secular education of his children might be as complete as possible. He was an active member of the Catholic Workman (K.D.) for 39 years and a fourth degree Knight of Columbus. His children are Mrs. Magdalena Pachta, Belleville; Mrs Frances Winbinger, Cuba; Vincent Baxa jr., Munden;Mrs. Elizabeth Oborny, Timken; Henry Baxa, Wayne; Fredrick Baxa, Cuba; Alfonso Baxa of the home; Lt. Edmond Baxa, Bainbridge, Ga; Lt. Edward Baxa on duty overseas; Rosarie Baxa of the home. Two children preceded him in death. Besides his wife and children he is also survived by 18 grandchildren; four brothers , Joseph of Munden, Stanley, Frank and Milek of Belleville; two sisters, Mrs. Barbara Havel of Cuba and Mrs. Stella Splichal of Belleville; and a host of other relatives and friends.
