Anna Havel nee Kluma was born in Pilzen, Czecholslovakia, March 21, 1856, and died at the age of 73 years, 1 month, and 18 days. She had been sick only one day. The cause of her death was a paralytic stroke. In 1874 she was united in marriage to Adolph Havel. Four years later they came to America and settled on a homestead near Cuba, Kans. Here they resided for 21 years. In 1909 they moved to Cuba where the deceased made her home until the time of her death. She was a member of the Z. C. B. J. lodge. She was the mother of thirteen children, ten sons, and three daughters. One son, Stephen, passed away in 1904, at the age of 18 years. Another son, Frank, died in 1925 at the age of 49 years. Her husband preceded her in death in 1915 at the age of 63 years. Those left to mourn her loss are eight sons, James, Joe, Milek, Charles, Lodis, Anton and Henry of Cuba, Kansas, and Edward, of Salem, Ore.; three daughters, Mrs. A. C. Klanman of Clay Center, Kans., Mrs. Ed Junek and, Mrs.Frank Sofcik of Cuba, Kans.. beside a large number of grandchildren and other friends and relatives. 2. [S39] Cuba Daylight Newspaper, Adolph Havel Obiturary (Reliability: 0).
It is our solemn duty to chronicle the death of one of the early settlers of this county. Adolf Havel passed away at his home in this city, Tuesday evening at 7 o'clock. The deceased was 63 years, 9 months and 15 days at the time of his departure. The deceased was born in Hronim Stupne, Austria-Hungary on May 31, 1853, where he grew to manhood. In the year 1874 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Kluma, at the place of his birth. To this union were born 13 children, one of whom having departed this life in 1904. Four years after their marriage he came with his wife to America and settled on a homestead 3 miles east and 2 1/2 miles south of this city, of Cuba, Kansas. Here he resided for 19 years, after which he moved to a farm one mile west of the homestead and resided there until 6 years ago, when he moved to this city. After being confined to his home for three weeks on account of sickness Mr. Havel passed away Tuesday March 16, 1915. The funeral will be held at the residence in this city on Friday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Anton Vanous. Interment will be at the Kopsa Cemetery southeast of Cuba, Kansas. The deceased was a member of the Z. C. B. J., C. S. P. S. and a Charter member of the I. O. O. F. of this city. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, 12 children, 9 boys and 3 girls, all of whom are residents of this community with the exception of Edward who lives at Chester, Mont. In the departure of Mr. Havel, this community loses a citizen who has fought for the right and who had endured the hardships of the early day of this country, but he came forth victorious as he had, at the time of his death, accumulated a nice share of this world's goods. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved family in this their hour of sadness.
