Frank Chermak, son of Terizie and John Chermak, was born January 24, 1856, at Borowa, Chrudium Province, Bohemia, and passed away at the Patterson hospital on November 17, 1944, having reached the age of 88 years 9 months and 23 days. When Mr. Chermak was 17 years old he came over from the Old Country alone. He lived in Minnesota for four years and from there he moved to Kansas and settled on a farm in Fairview township of Republic county. This farm was his home for 65 years. From there he moved onto a farm in Farmington township and lived with his son, Charlie until the time of his illness, three weeks ago. In 1881 he was united in marriage to Mary Kadlec. To this union eight children were born. Mrs. Chermak preceded her husband in death on December 15, 1899, at the age of 39 years. Twin daughters preceded him in death on November 12, 1892. The children that survive to mourn his passing are Mrs. Mary Lahodny, Mrs. Anna Blecha, Mrs. Matilda Lahodny, Charlie Chermak, all of Narka, Kan.; Mrs. Helen Hanel, Munden, Kan.; and Mrs. Frances Herink, Bushong, Kan. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. One grandchild is in the service, Cpl. Leonard K. Hanel. Mr. Chermak has a great host of friends who mourn his passing. Funeral services were held November 27 at the home of his son, Charlie, and interment was in Tabor Cemetery.
