    10. [S39] Cuba Daylight Newspaper, Joseph Blazek Obituary (Reliability: 0), 11 Jun 1914.
It becomes our duty this week to chronicle the departure of one of our most loved and respected citizens—Joseph Blazek, who died at his home three miles west of Cuba Friday morning at 11 o'clock. Joseph Blazek was born in Austria-Hungary on August 28, 1855 and at the time of his death was 58 years, nine months and seven days of age. In 1876 he came with his father to America and located near Mahaska, in the state of Nebraska. While crossing the ocean all their possessions amounting to $1000 were stolen and when they located in Nebraska he was penniless. He resided in that state one year and then came to Kansas and homesteaded in Jefferson township, this county, where a son of the deceased now lives. He was united in marriage in August, 1878, to Miss Magdelina Havel and to this union were born ten children, six of whom have preceded him in the departure from this world. He was a member of the C. S. P. S. Lodge, No. 109, of this city and carried $1000 insurance in this order. The funeral services were held at the home Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Anton Vanous. After the services the remains were taken to the National Cemetery, southeast of Cuba and laid to rest. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife four daughters and four sons, besides four sisters and a large circle of friends. Two daughters and three sons, who are married, and reside in Jefferson township. Two of his sisters live in Wisconsin and two reside near Mahaska, Kansas. Mr. Blazek, although, he landed in this country penniless, had accumulated during his residence in this county 1355 acres of land, which shows that he was an earnest worker and a man of good business judgment. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved family in their hour of sadness.

With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand, She has wandered into an unknown land, And left us dreaming how very fair It needs must be, since she lingers there. And you - O you, who the wildest yearn For the old-time step and the glad return, Thing of her faring on, as dear In the love of There as the love of Here; Think of her still as the same, I say; She is no dead - she is just away! -James Whitcomb Riley.
