Elmer Arthur Kauer, son of Harvey and Josie Kolars Kauer, was born February 10, 1912, on the family farm east of Cuba, and died December 12, 1989, at Heartland Care Center in Belleville, at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 2 days. He received his elementary education at Meter Rural School east of Cuba, and attended Cuba High School. He was united in marriage to Lorene Havel and to this union was born two sons. His wife died in 1938. He was later married to Della Kasper and she died in 1977. He was then married to Helen Oeltjen. He spent most of his life in Republic County but had lived in Chester since his latter marriage. Due to ill health he had moved to Heartland Care Center. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Chester. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Rosa Kalivoda, Emma Conn and Julia Kauer; four brothers, Wesley, Edward, William and Frankie; one granddaughter, Janet Kauer. He is survived by his wife, Helen of Belleville; two sons, Clayton of Belleville, Idan of Brighton,Colo.; one step-son, J. Fred Oeltjen of Lincoln Nebr.; one step-daughter, Mrs. Wilbert (Bernadine) Poppe of Mountain Home, Ark.; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Kalivoda of Clyde, Mrs. Lillian Ettleman of Belleville, Mrs. Stella Bednar of Belleville; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held December 15 at Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Memorial Chapel of Belleville, conducted by Rev. Garth Barber. Interment was in Kopsa Cemetery.

Lorene Havel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milek Havel, was born in Jefferson township, March 29, 1914, and departed this life at the Patterson Memorial hospital at Belleville, May 22, 1938, at the age of 24 years, 1 month and 23 days. She spent her entire life in this community. On February 3, 1932, she was united in marriage to Elmer Kauer, and to this union two children were born, both of whom survive. She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, two small sons, Clayton Dale, 4, and Iden Neal, 3; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milek Havel; two brothers and two sisters, Victor Havel of Wayne and Clifford, Maxine and Alice Mae of Cuba; also her aged grandmother, Mrs. Frank Kolman and a great-grandmother, Mrs. Katherine Havel; a host of other relatives and friends who loved her. Mrs. Kauer was a kind and loving wife, and mother, always smiling and doing kind deeds every day. In the early part of April she took ill with a cold and flu, which later developed into pneunomia. Funeral services were held May 24 at the Presbyterian church in Cuba, by the pastor Rev. Wm. Kovar. Interment was made in the Kopsa cemetery.

Della Marie Kasper Kauer, daughter of Joseph and Anna B. Drashner Kasper, was born at Narka, Kans., February 4, 1907, and died at the Washington county Hospital at Washington, Kan., June 2, 1977, at the age of 70 years, three months and 28 days. She received her education at Bethlehem rural school, was a graduated of Narka High School and attended Kansas State University at Manhattan. She was united in marriage to Elmer A. Kauer December 23, 1939 at Washington. She spent most of her life in Republic County and was engaged in farming with her husband. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one granddaughter and one sister. She is survived by: her husband, Elmer of Cuba; two sons, Clayton of Belleville and Idan of Brighton, Colo.; five grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, June 5, at 3:00 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church of Cuba, conducted by the Rev. Paul J. Boaz. Interment was in National Bohemian Cemetery, Cuba.

Helen Esther Kauer, daughter of James and Cynthia Duncan Davenport was born February 7, 1906 at Hubbell, NE, and passed away October 13, 1993 at Heartland Care Center, Belleville, KS, at the age of 87 years, eight months and five days. She was united in marriage to Fred G. Oeltjen in Geneva in 1927 and to this union three children were born: Jim, J. Fred, and Birdene. Fred Oeltjen passed away on March 30, 1975. She was united in marriage to Elmer Kauer in February, 1978. Elmer passed away on December 12, 1989. She spent most of her life in the Chester community. She was a homemaker and worked with her husband in the upholstery business for many years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, the Ladies Aide of St. John Lutheran and the E.H.U. of Chester. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Fred G. Oeltjen in 1975, and Elmer Kauer in 1989; one infant son, Jim; six brothers and three sisters. She is survived by one son, J. Fred Oeltjen and wife Jackie, Lincoln, NE; one daughter, Mrs. Birdene Poppe and husband Wilbert, Mountain Home, Ark.; two step-sons, Clayton Kauer and wife Linda, Belleville, KS, and Idan Kauer and wife Doris, Brighton, CO; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lura Clausen, Oakland, NE; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Clay Davenport, Chester, and Mrs. Fred Davenport, Plattsmouth, NE; nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Services were held Friday, October 15, 1993, 10:30 a.m. at the St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, conducted by Pastor William Larsen. Organist was Mrs. Alvin Poppe, and Mrs. Jack Long and Mrs. Wilbert Crouse sang. Casket bearers were Stuart Sell, Mike Hare, Melvin Davenport, John Oeltjen, David Sell, Jim Oeltjen, Glenn E. Davenport and Tim Poppe. Interment was made at the Chester.
