Mabel O. Ekstrom, daughter of Erick and Christina Frodberg Hoknberg, was born February 23, 1897, at Wayne and died May 29, 1992, at Belleville Health Care Center at the age of 95 years, three months and six days. She received her elementary education at Wayne. She was united in marriage to Wendell Ekstrom, November 1, 1923, and to this union four children were born. She lived her entire life in Republic County and was engaged in farming with her husband for many years. She was a member of the Methodist church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wendell, May 7, 1965, one son, Edward Ekstrom, March 30, 1977, one grandchild, Barbara Willianson, five brothers and four sisters. She is survived by one son, William Ekstrom of Drexel, Mo., two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Marjorie) Payne, Charlotte White, both of Lincoln, Nebr.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great- grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, at the United Methodist Church of Agenda, conducted by Rev. Judy Ramsey, interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery at Clyde.

Wendell F. Ekstrom, son of Evangeline Nicholas and Edward J. Ekstrom was born October 26, 1896 near Wayne, Kan,, and passed away May 7, 1965 at his home near Clyde, Kan., at the age of 68 years, 6 months, and 11 days. His childhood was spent in the Wayne and Clyde, Kan., area and he received his education at the Stony Point Rural Grade School. On November 1, 1923 he was united in marriage to Mabel Holmberg, at Belleville, Kan. To this union were born four children: Edward, William, Charlotte, and Marjorie. His, occupation was farming. He and his wife have lived for more than 30 years in the immediate vicinity of his present home. A veteran of World War I, he served in Company B - 352nd. Infantry A.E.F. He was a member of the Methodist Church at Wayne, American Legion Post No. 245 of Clyde, Kan., and V.F.W. Post No. 7515, also of Clyde. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ross. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Mabel of the home, Edward of Superior; Nebr.; William of Kansas City, Mo., Charlotte White (Mrs. Leland) and Marjorie Payne (Mrs. Richard) of Lincoln, Nebr., 11 grandchildren, three sisters, Doris E. Ekstrom of Arcadia, Calif., Ora Haworth (Mrs. Creston) of Clyde and Ethel Kaiser (Mrs. Irwin) of Arcadia, Calif., and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Wayne, Kan., on May 10, 1965 with Rev. John Decker officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Clyde, Kan.
