      Francis Holmberg Francis Marie Holmberg, daughter of Henry and Anna Albertina Broden Englund was born at Clay Center, Kansas, on March 15, 1898, and died at the St. Joseph hospital, Concordia, on March 5,1978, at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 18 days. She received her education at the Wayne public schools. On May 13, 1914, she married Erick Holmberg of Wayne. One son, Paul E. Holmberg, was born. She spent most of her life in the Wayne community but lived in Belleville from 1964 to 1974. She has lived in the Sunset Home, Concordia, the remainder of her life. She was a member of the First United Methodist church, Belleville; United Methodist Women and Friendship Sunday school class of Belleville; and Priscilla club, and the American Legion Auxiliary of Beileville. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Erick, in 1957; one son, Lt. Paul E. Holmberg who lost his life over Germany on July 29, 1944; two brothers and one sister. She is survived by one brother, Lester Englund, Richmond, Calif.; one foster brother, Donald Broden of Kansas City; one sister, Mrs. Anna Downey of Kansas City. Funeral services were held at the First United Methodist church Tuesday, March 7, with the Rev. Larry Dutton and Rev. John Frint officiating. Burial was at the Rose Hill cemetery near Wayne.

      Erick E. Holmberg Erick Emanuel Holmberg. son of Erick and Christine Holmberg, was born in Wayne, Kan., May 24, 1892, and departed this life May 2, 1957, in St. Joseph's hospital at Concordia, Kan. Erick lived in the Wayne Community all his life. He received his education in the Wayne public schools and at the Grand Island Business and Normal College at Grand Island, Neb. On May 13, 1914, he united in marriage to Frances Englund of Wayne and to this union was born one son, Paul Eugene. He became a member of the Wayne Methodist church early in life. He was not a church member in name only but sought to live the principles as set forth by his Savior. His faith was deeply rooted, as was shown by his acceptance of the illness, which took his life, with a smile and a spirit devoid of all bitterness and resentment. To visit him in his hospital room was an inspiration in itself. Erick Holmberg bore his cross as a true christian. Preceding him in death were his father and mother. two brothers, Frank and William, one sister, Emma and his beloved son, First Lt. Paul E. Holmberg, who was killed in a mission over Germany in World War II on July 29, 1944. Living to mourn his passing are his wife, Frances, of Wayne, three brothers, Charles of Wayne, Edward of Winona, Kan., Victor of Belleville; four sisters, Mrs. Ida Nelson of Scandia, Mrs. Alma Lindamood of Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. Minnie Dulan of Wayne, Mrs. Mable Ekstrom of Agenda and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Sunday, May 5 at the Wayne Methodist church, the Rev. Ross Thornton of the Concordia Methodist church and Royce Baldwin, lay pastor of the Talmo and Wayne Methodist churches, officiating. Interment was in the Rose Hill cemetery.
