She was the second of eight children. Her family moved to Ohio when she was a child, and then to Iroquoise county, Ill., in 1868. Her early life was spent in the vicinity of Milford and Cissna Park, Ill. She was married to Thomas B. Downie and lived in Goodwine a number of years. After his death in 1908 she moved to Villa Grove where a son, Otis, died the following year. In 1917 she married Charles E. Gamble of Villa Grove. Wherever she lived, Mrs. Coonrod made friends. Mrs. Coonrod united with the Methodist church at an early age and continued in the faith until she moved to Mahaska. At that time she transferred her membership to the Presbyterian church. Survivors are her husband; one son, D. M. Gilmore; a sister, Mrs. Mae Parrish; and a host of relatives and friends.
